NASCAR WCUP: LaJoies Thoughts on Talladega Superspeedway

21 April 1999

LaJoies Thoughts on Talladega Superspeedway:

I really have an appreciation for Talladega. Its one of the fastest tracks the Busch Series competes on and its definitely an exciting place to race. I seem to qualify and finish well there, except for 95. I only ran nine races that year and one of them was Talladega. I was involved in an accident and fell out early. Tommy Houstons team asked me to relieve him, so I jumped in. I was moving back up through the pack and I got tagged which caused the car to flip over a few times. It was a wild ride. I think I ended up finishing 16th.

Im looking forward to racing on a superspeedway this weekend. Weve not had the greatest luck the past few races on short tracks, so Talladega is a welcomed change. Were taking the car that won Daytona and a brand new motor. I think we should really have something for them.

LaJoies Thoughts on the 1999 Season:

The season started off exceptionally well. I won the season-opening race at Daytona, I left there with the points lead and Bob Evans came on board. Even though we all want to win races, the end-of-the-year championship is our ultimate goal. It seemed like at Darlington our luck started to change. Weve been disappointed that all of our hard work hasnt exactly shown on the track, but we know everybody has a little bad luck every once in a while. This Bob Evans team will just keep digging because I know weve got the team to run up front and win more races this year.
