NASCAR BGN: Kevin Grubb Notes, Talladega

22 April 1999

SUPERSPEEDWAY RACES? NO PROBLEM: The Touchstone Energy 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Talladega SuperSpeedway is Kevin Grubb's first start on the 2.66 mile high banked track but is not his first on a SuperSpeedway. The 21-year-old driver made his SuperSpeedway debut on February 13, 1999 when he competed in the NAPA 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway and scored an impressive seventh place finish.

SPRING BREAK IN KENTUCKY: Last week, Timber Wolf Racing fabricator Kyle Pilman enjoyed his spring break, a rare weekend away from a race track, in Central City, Kentucky, home of Brewco Motorsports' NASCAR Busch Series operation. The 21-year-old Seymour, Indiana native didn't spend his break like many young adults, on a tropical beach with a cold beverage in hand. Instead, he worked diligently in the team's shop preparing No. 37 Chevrolets for Kevin Grubb to drive in future races.

"For the past seven weeks, I have been going nonstop," said Pilman, who also handles front tire changer duties on race day. "A week off is always welcome."

From March 6-April 8, the NASCAR Busch Series has raced weekly at venues spanning from Las Vegas, Nevada to Darlington, South Carolina. The April 11 'off' weekend offered Pilman his first break in seven weeks.

"Over the break, I spent a lot of time preparing a new car that Kevin will drive at California Speedway," continued Pilman. "After the body was hung, it was delivered to the shop and I got to work on it. Windows had to be custom fit, crush panels fabricated, cowls built, the seat installed and so on. This break allowed me more time to concentrate on my job and the more focused you are, the better the results."

HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY KEVIN!: Kevin Grubb celebrated his 21st birthday on April 19.

1 OUT OF 4 ISN'T BAD: On average, Kevin Grubb finishes in the top 10 in one out of every four starts in the NASCAR Busch Series.

ASSOCIATE SPONSOR: Shop-A-Snak, a convenience store chain with 40 stores in Central and Southern Alabama, is an associate sponsor on the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the Touchstone Energy 300 at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
