USAC: A.J. Foyt's True Value 'Hulman Hoosier Hundred' Entries Grow

A.J. FOYT'S TRUE VALUE "HULMAN HOOSIER HUNDRED" ENTRIES GROW STELLAR FIELD EXPECTED FOR 19TH ANNUAL RUNNING FRIDAY, MAY 28Four drivers representing seven USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series championships are entered in the Friday night, May 28, True Value "Hulman -Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Jimmy Sills (3), Jack Hewitt (2), Dave Darland (1) and Jason Leffler (1) are among the 34 early entrants for next week's 100-lap championship event on the storied one-mile clay oval.
Other USAC open-wheel champions hoping to win the 19th annual "Hulman-Hoosier Hundred" are past Stoops Freightliner/USAC sprint car titlists Brian Tyler (2) and Tony Elliott (1), past MCI WorldCom USAC National Midget champ Russ Gamester (1) and former MCI WorldCom USAC "Western" Midget champs Robby Flock (3) and Jay Drake (1).
"It's going to be a helluva race, that's for sure," said A.J. Foyt, who won an unprecedented six championship car races at the Fairgrounds and is the promoter of Friday night's event. "The (Silver Bullet Series) cars are just a lot of fun to drive, and just as much fun to watch.
"I always look forward to this race."
As usual, Foyt's attention will be focused on the #111 Silver Bullet car he and longtime friend and racer George Snider have entered, sponsored by event namesake True Value Hardware and driven by Placerville's (Calif.) Jimmy Sills, the series' only three-time champion (1990, 1994 and 1996). Sills, who celebrates his 46th birthday two days prior to the May 28 green flag, is currently ranked fourth among Silver Bullet series career race winners with nine victories, just one shy of third-place Gary Bettenhausen.
The Snider-Foyt ownership combination is one of the circuit's strongest, boasting five championship wins. Sills is looking for his first win behind the wheel of a Snider-Foyt entry.
For the first time in the long history of the race, youths 12 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult (limit: two free youths with each paying adult).
"We wanted to do something different from years past, and this was a great way to encourage folks to bring their kids to the track, said Foyt. "It's a great evening of racing at a race track that has a very rich history. We're trying to build race fans and this is a neat way to do that."
Tickets to A.J. Foyt's "Hulman-Hoosier Hundred" are on sale at the Indiana State Fairgrounds (317-927-1482), and can be purchased with a VISA, Mastercard, or Discover Credit Card. Tickets are also available at all midwest TicketMaster outlets or can be purchased at the Fairgrounds (1202 East 38th Street).
Reserved grandstand tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors 62 and over, and free for youths 12 and under (limit: two free youths with each paying adult). Infield passes, good on race day only at the Fairgrounds, are $15 each, with youths 12 and under free (limit: two youths with each paying adult).
Gates at the Fairgrounds open at 4:30 pm on May 28. Practice laps begin at 5:00 pm, qualifications at 6:00 pm, the 15-lap consolation race at 7:00 pm and the True Value "Hulman-Hoosier Hundred at 8:00 pm.
