with Walt Glatthaar

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of TACH
Motorsports Report host Walt Glatthaar. Walt joined The Auto Channel
family in May of 1997, and had webcast a weekly radio show during every
racing season since then.
When Walt joined us several years ago he worked for KMOX in
St. Louis, Missouri. That powerful radio station sent Walt's voice
out to thousands of listeners located across the country. Walt was an
enthusiastic radio man and continued his work with KMOX, but he also
saw the potential of the Internet to bring current racing news to a
global audience. Walt used his air time on The Auto Channel to prove
himself a pioneer on the Internet. He was keenly devoted to
delivering the best information and entertainment possible to his new
Internet audience.
Walt viewed U.S. service men and women abroad as an important part
of his international audience, and did what he could to recognize
them. Walt served as a paratrooper with the Army's 82nd Airborne
Division between 1946 and 1948, and took great pride in directly
addressing America's troops abroad at the end of each of his shows.
Because of this dedication, the National Association of Recruiters and
Career Counselors awarded Walt their 1998 Veteran of the Year award,
which he accepted at a ceremony in Washington D.C. earlier this
spring.
Walt died at 71 years of age on Sunday, June 27, 1999. His death
came during a weekend of races at his home town race track, Gateway
International Speedway, outside of St. Louis. Walt was covering the
Sears Craftsman Nationals Drag Races at the Gateway speedway, and
filed his final KMOX radio report just hours before he passed.
Walt's knowledge, enthusiasm, and voice will be sadly missed by all of us.
