Nissan Gets 5 NHTSA Stars

WASHINGTON--The 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab recently received a five-star rating for side impact collisions from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Cab earned NHTSA’s highest star rating for side crash test safety in the Side Impact New Car Assessment Program (SINCAP) which is designed to estimate the possibility of a life-threatening chest injury for the driver and rear seat passenger in a side impact collision.

Designed to meet stringent internal safety requirements and current Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for passenger cars, the Cab features pipe-style steel side door guard beams in front and rear doors as standard equipment. Other standard equipment includes dual front supplemental air bags, four-wheel anti lock braking system, “fasten front seat belt” warning light, child seat anchors, energy absorbing steering column, front crumple zones, hood buckling creases and safety stops, skid plates for fuel tank and engine, and clutch interlock.

Introduced as a 2000 model, the Nissan Frontier Crew Cab has four doors while combining the practicality of a SUV with the open bed utility of a pickup truck. Offered in a 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive configuration, the Crew Cab comes equipped with a SOHC 3.3 liter V6 or Supercharged V6 engine.

“Nissan takes its commitment to product safety and customer satisfaction very seriously,” said Jim Morton, senior vice president at Nissan North America Inc. “The Frontier Crew Cab is a great example of our commitment to put safety first. Its boldness in styling and performance combined with its safety and convenience features makes it unique in today’s compact truck market.”
