Hummer Recognized for Design Excellence at Chicago Show

CHICAGO, Feb. 9 It isn't only concept cars and the latest
models in performance and technology that are stealing the spotlight at the
100th Anniversary Chicago Auto Show. In an effort to complement Chicago's
tradition of distinction in architecture and increase the visual caliber of
the gigantic show floor displays, manufacturers are encouraged to produce
powerful exhibits that effectively complement their brand name and message.

At Thursday's First Look for Charity black-tie preview, a four member jury
from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA)
presented this year's Award for Design Excellence to Hummer.

According to Steve Saunders, past president of the AIA Chicago, car
company exhibits are judged for innovation and creativity; appropriateness to
brand name; space utilization and circulation; and cost effectiveness and
portability.

"Hummer's strong image married very well with the image of the car," said
Saunders. "No other car could have sat in that space," he added. "Hummer
fabricated a set that appealed to the strong ancestry of the car by
incorporating themes of war, survival and ruggedness."

Saunders asserted that it was very difficult to determine a winner this
year. The judges also appreciated Subaru's illuminated display with the
presentation of how a car functions as well as Volvo's "beautifully crafted"
exhibit.

The AIA contest for design excellence is unique to the Chicago Auto Show.
Past recipients of the award include Audi in 2000, Lincoln in 1999 and Nissan
in 1998.
