Method of Verifying Vehicle Emissions Patent Issued

ST. LOUIS--May 2, 2001--International Fuel Technology, Inc. (IFT) (OTCBB:IFUE) announced today that U.S. Patent No. 6,216,527, involving a method of verifying vehicle emissions, was issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 17, 2001.
"This is an important step in our process for bringing the PEERfuel(TM) technology to a point where we can determine its potential commercial applications," said Jonathan R. Burst, Chief Executive Officer. "It is essential to verify the results coming from the use of the PEERfuel(TM) technology, and with the methodology in our patent we can be assured that the results we achieve are accurately recorded."
IFT's patent documents a method for verifying vehicle emissions resulting from the use of the Company's PEERfuel(TM) technology. The critical claims underlying the patent include the steps of testing a refined fuel for emissions, treating the refined fuel through the PEERfuel(TM) system following initial testing, and then re-testing the treated refined fuel for emissions. The initial measurements are then compared with the measurements from the PEERfuel(TM) sample to determine reductions in emissions.
The results obtained from the PEERfuel(TM) technology, which are verified using the patent methodology, can then be submitted to regulatory agencies such as the Air Resources Board of California (CARB) as support for a CARB-fuel certification process. If certification is granted, the reductions in emissions from non-treated fuel in comparison to fuel treated with the PEERfuel(TM) system might be utilized in applying for emission reduction credits.
