Saturn Retailers Conduct Free Child Safety Seat Checks

FOR RELEASE: May 15, 2001

Saturn Retailers Conduct Free Child Safety Seat Checks

TROY, Mich. - Local Saturn retailers will offer free child safety seat checks to the public. The inspections will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 in Southfield, Troy and Grand Rapids. In addition, AAA of Michigan will provide free fingerprinting identification for children at each location.

"According to the Safe Kids Coalition, four out of five child safety seats are improperly installed," said Jerry Lewis, Saturn UAW Sales, Service and Marketing coordinator. "Child safety seats and safety belts, when correctly installed and used, can prevent injury and save lives. We at Saturn hope people will take this opportunity to have the installation of their child safety seat inspected."

Saturn is sponsoring "seat check" events in conjunction with its UAW partners and the Safe Kids Coalition.

Saturn's retailers in Michigan offered inspections throughout the month of May. The Child Seat Safety Program is one of the many community projects sponsored by Saturn and the UAW including early literacy campaigns, blood and organ donation programs, food drives and other community projects.

The May 17 inspections will be held at Saturn of Southfield, 29929 Telegraph Road, Southfield; Saturn of Troy, 1790 Maplelawn, Troy; and Saturn of Grand Rapids, 2720 28th Street S.E., Grand Rapids.
