New ThermoQuiet Brake Pads From Federal-Mogul

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 8 Federal-Mogul Corporation
has introduced Wagner(R) ThermoQuiet(TM) brake pads, the first
automotive and light-truck pads to simultaneously deliver three key
performance characteristics desired by technicians and consumers -- quiet
performance, superior stopping power and enhanced durability.
    
    Wagner ThermoQuiet pads, available now through distributors of Wagner
Brake Products, feature the patented IMI(TM) Sound Insulator(TM) design, which
replaces conventional shims for quieter performance and longer life.  (The IMI
design is available for most applications.)  The IMI Sound Insulator is
extruded through the backing plate, forming a one-piece design incorporating
the insulator, friction material and backing plate.  This advanced
configuration creates a greater surface area for superior dissipation of heat
and noise.

    In conventional brake pads, a shim, or plate, is inserted between the
brake pad backing plate and the housing that holds the pad within the brake
assembly, to absorb sound and dissipate heat.  The shim and backing plate are
attached with rivets or an adhesive, creating the possibility of unwanted shim
movement within the pad assembly.  The one-piece design of ThermoQuiet brake
pads eliminates this possibility, while enhancing performance and durability.

hand with OE vehicle design engineers around the world in the development of
