Land Rover's Discovery Series II Named Best Mid-Sized SUV for Total Quality
LANHAM, Md., July 2 The British-built Land Rover Discovery Series II has been named "Best Mid-Sized Sport-Utility Vehicle" in a new quality study released today. According to Strategic Vision, a San Diego-based automotive research company, Discovery Series II drivers placed their vehicle at the top of a list of 16 mid-sized SUVs in terms of overall ownership satisfaction after three months of ownership. Commenting on the first place ranking for Discovery, Howard Mosher, president of Land Rover North America Inc. said, "Strategic Vision's research backs up what we have long known. Discovery Series II is an appealing, capable vehicle that meets more of the customer's expectations in today's SUV market -- especially for discriminating consumers wanting not only for an exciting vehicle, but an excellent retail experience as well." The Total Quality Index(TM) is formulated from Strategic Vision's 2001 Vehicle Experience Study(TM), which is an extensive survey of more than 34,000 consumers who purchased new vehicles in the last quarter of 2000 and the first quarter of 2001. The resulting index is a measure of the total vehicle experience after three months of real world driving. It rates numerous aspects of vehicle ownership including reliability, the retail experience and, an aspect unique to this study, the owners' emotional response to the vehicle. The Discovery Series II was highly rated in categories such as sales process, craftsmanship, roadability, safety and reliability. "Land Rover's unique combination emotionally engaging products coupled with a strongly positive retail experience delivers delight to its owners," said Dan Gorrell, vice president of Strategic Vision. "In terms of a high quality ownership experience, the Discovery Series II is the best in the mid- sized SUV class." The manufacturer's suggested retail price for Discovery is $33,995. Standard equipment includes a 185HP aluminum V8 engine, permanent four-wheel drive, four-wheel electronic traction control and a four-channel, all-terrain anti-lock brake system. Optional equipment includes ACE, the industry's only active suspension system for an SUV, and available seating for up to seven passengers.
