Chrysler Group Reports U.S. August Sales

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 4 Chrysler Group reported U.S.
sales of 164,555 units in August 2001, compared to 216,869 in August 2000, a
decline of 24 percent.
    "Last year was the best August in our history," said Christine Cortez,
Vice President - Sales and Marketing Operations.  "We were in the midst of
replacing seven new models and that required extraordinary incentive actions
to move higher than normal inventory levels of the older products."
    "The future is bright and we are poised to reach new customers with
exciting new products in each of our brands -- Liberty for Jeep(R), Ram for
Dodge and PT Cruiser variants for Chrysler -- and with a unique pricing and
product re-positioning plan that will widen our acceptance across all model
lines," said Cortez.

    *  Jeep Liberty sales are strong, at 11,458 units in August, beating last
month's mark by 896 units.
    *  Chrysler PT Cruiser sales of 11,951 units were up 1,254 units, compared
to July, 2001.
    *  Dealers are beginning to take delivery of the all-new Dodge Ram, as
2001 model year Ram trucks are just about sold-out.

    In addition to exciting product offerings for each brand, last week the
Chrysler Group announced an aggressive pricing strategy for the 2002 model
year, reducing overall pricing by 0.9 percent.  Jeep Grand Cherokee pricing
was reduced by $2,000 per vehicle and Chrysler 300M was reduced by $1,200.

    Other August sales highlights:

    *  Chrysler Sebring Convertible sales of 2,687 units were up 53 percent,
compared to August 2000.
    *  Chrysler Sebring Sedan sales were 4,084 units, up from last year's
launch volume of 323 units.
    *  Chrysler Sebring Coupe sales of 1,137 units were up 133 percent,
compared to August 2000.
    *  Dodge Stratus Sedan sales of 4,993 units were up 46 percent, compared
to August 2000.
    *  Dodge Stratus Coupe sales were 1,414 units, up from last year's launch
volume of 780 units.
