AAA's Repair Experts Want All Motorists to be Aware of Approved Shops

ORLANDO, Fla.--Oct. 1, 2001--AAA, North America's largest organization for motorists and other travelers, will observe Car Care Month in October by reminding members and other consumers to look for repair and maintenance shops that have been independently inspected and approved by AAA's repair experts.
"Consumers searching for a reliable repair facility this fall can access the same network of quality repair facilities already known to millions of AAA members," said John Nielsen, director, AAA Auto Repair Network. "It's as easy as looking for the familiar AAA logo and the words AAA Approved Auto Repair on a sign in front of the shop, looking for the AAA Approved Auto Repair logo in automotive repair advertisements in the telephone directory, or visiting http://www.aaa.com on the Internet."
For years, AAA has recommended all drivers have their vehicles inspected annually for needed maintenance or repairs during AAA Car Care Month in October. A vehicle checkup prior to the start of either cold or very warm weather is important, as extreme temperatures are more likely to induce breakdowns, AAA said.
Although only one-third of facilities that apply for AAA approval are accepted, there are more than 7,100 AAA Approved Auto Repair shops in the United States and Canada. This exclusive, high-quality network includes independently owned and operated shops, franchises and new car dealerships. Every shop is inspected regularly by AAA's local staff of repair experts. Each is checked for customer satisfaction, up-to-date training, proper tools, quality parts, full warranties, and ethical business practices.
AAA approval also means auto club members are entitled to a courtesy safety inspection whenever other work is performed on their vehicle, and they may ask AAA to investigate and resolve any issues that might arise as a result of a repair or maintenance item.
"Dedicated AAA professionals spend countless hours ensuring more than 44 million members can easily locate the best repair and maintenance businesses in their area," Nielsen said. "As a public service, AAA wants to encourage all motorists to look for and ask about AAA approval when selecting a repair facility."
AAA clubs throughout the United States and Canada will be observing Car Care Month by distributing information on appropriate vehicle maintenance practices, holding free diagnostic clinics in some locations and offering special promotions in cooperation with local business partners.
