"What Color is Your Vibe?" - Pontiac Announces Vibe's Color Names

DETROIT - Today eight people will earn the right to say they named one of the 2003 Pontiac Vibe's exterior colors. Consumers submitted nearly 250,000 creative, witty or "cool" color names during Pontiac's summer-long "What Color is Your Vibe?" contest. The eight winners, chosen by those voting at the Pontiac web-site, are: Abyss (black), Satellite (silver), Shadow (dark grey), Frosty (white), Lava (red), Salsa (dark red), Neptune (blue), and Envy (green).

Pontiac tapped into the creative energy of young buyers by giving them the opportunity to name all eight of the excitement division's newest car's colors. The all-new 2003 Pontiac Vibe, coming to dealerships in early 2002, is not your typical new car nor was the "What Color is Your Vibe?" a typical marketing campaign.

Winners were able to select a grand prize that best fit their lifestyle or personality. Top choices included: a Panasonic Home Entertainment Package, a Greek Islands Cruise Package, a Beverly Hills Celebrity Stylist Makeover Package, and a Cordon Bleu Cooking Class Package in Paris. In cases where more than one person submitted the same name, a drawing will be held to determine the winner.

Contest Details: People were asked to submit innovative color names on the Pontiac web-site and at Pontiac-sponsored events such as the ESPN X-Games and the Vans Warped Tour. Consumers who logged onto www.pontiac.com/colormyvibe, could submit names for the Vibe's exterior colors between June 13 and August 23. Once on the site, entrants viewed the eight colors that will be available on the Vibe and then suggested a creative name for any or all of the colors. Upon submission of the color names, visitors were asked to select their own grand prize.

After reviewing a whopping 245,047 color name submissions, Pontiac narrowed the list to five names per color. Those "finalist" colors were then posted on the Pontiac web-site where visitors were able to vote for their favorite names throughout the month of September.

"Using the Web as the building block of the 'What Color Is Your Vibe?' sweepstakes allowed us to interact with young buyers in a way that's customer-focused, relevant and fun," said Bierley. "In the process, we are initiating Vibe's branding message of individual self-expression, and providing young people with an opportunity to re-think Pontiac." To encourage submissions, Pontiac promised to donate $1 for each person submitting one or more color names (up to $25,000 maximum) to My Friend's Place. Since 1988, the organization has been helping homeless youths to empower themselves and take responsibility for their lives. Today, hundreds visit the Los Angeles resource center every week.
