Redesigned 2002 Toyota Camry to be Showcased at SAE Detroit Meeting

DETROIT--Oct. 16, 2001--The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Detroit Section will hold its November meeting on Thursday, November 1, at the Burton Manor, Livonia, Michigan.
The new look of America's best selling car, the 2002 Toyota Camry, will be discussed.
Owing to it's reputation as a reliable, practical, midsize car, it has been the number one selling car in America for the last four years, according to Cindy Mahalak, specialist, Corporate Planning and External Affairs, of Toyota Technical Center (TTC). "Even with this sales success, our company felt this perennial favorite could be improved, providing customers with even more value," Mahalak said. Toyota took on this challenge three years ago, with the result being the 2002 model Camry.
Toyota engineers believe the new Camry has achieved a "near perfect balance of form and function," Mahalak said. "It was engineered to perform better, look better, be gentler on our environment and provide greater value to the customer."
Toyota will have three cars and engine and transmission cut-aways at the November 1 dinner meeting.
Burton Manor is at 27777 Schoolcraft Road, in Livonia. A cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7:30. Reservations are required. Tickets are $30 each or $15 for SAE student members. The meeting is open to members and non-members. Please call the SAE Detroit Section at 248-324-4445 or register online at www.sae-detroit.org.
