Get Traction with Tire Safety Data

Nov. 26, 2001 - OTTAWA: With recent lawsuits having brought a greater public focus on tire safety, automotive consumers are justifiably concerned about tire traction and durability ratings. To help drivers explore tire safety information online, Databeacon Inc. today added a new interactive database entitled "Get a Grip on Tire Safety" to Storydata.com (www.storydata.com). Using data from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Storydata.com allows drivers to interactively analyze and explore their options before purchasing new tires.

For example, tire consumers can discover:

· Traction ratings for production model tires
· Tires that have the greatest resistance to heat build-up
· Tire models with exceptional durability

Powered by Databeacon interactive data analysis software, Storydata.com offers site visitors the ability to further slice and dice tire safety data in ways that make the most sense to them.

Unlike other Web sites that present data as simple text, tables or downloadable documents, Storydata.com gives site visitors a graphical, interactive representation of data in bar, pie and line charts and graphs. They can use Databeacon software to further manipulate the data to find out what they need to know, and even save their interactive data explorations on their PCs much like they would save a bookmark in a browser.

In addition to the "Get a Grip on Tire Safety" data, other examples of data available on Storydata.com include the U.S. Department of Energy's data on Fuel Economy for 2002 model cars, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's data on serious diseases in the USA, the OECD's projections on age-related spending, and the last five years of U.S. ground-level ozone readings from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
