Where Would You Buy Ethanol for Your Car?

November 29, 2001

Sacramento - That's what critics are saying to the latest General Motors plan to build a full-sized pickup truck that runs on gasoline and E85 ethanol. The General announced yesterday that it would begin building ethanol-capable versions of its gas guzzling Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra in the first quarter of next year. Critics, however, say G.M. is making a hollow and symbolic gesture to increase fuel economy credits. According to sources, there are less than 200 ethanol fuel filling stations in the nation and customers will pay as much as $250 more for extra equipment to make the vehicle ethanol capable.

G.M says it now sells several vehicles that are ethanol capable including the Chevrolet S-10, GMC Sonoma, the Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
