Detroit Auto Show - Reflections of Day Two

My observation is that the none too subtle theme to most of the Concept and New Model unveilings today was, as Subaru proclaimed during their presentations "Performance with Attitude"; I can honestly say that if I see another mountain bike or snow board or jet ski attached to a new car I'll puke.

It seems that California Dreaming has take over the car design business.

When there were only a few design studios on the left coast only the occasional car was designed to project the sand between the toes look.

But today the sun bleached blond surfer dudes and dudedetts have gone over the top and are controlling the look and design and utilitarian purpose of new car models.

Virtually every publicity photo suite includes a Gidget Group Shot;with the sun setting and the surfboards stowed ...on...in...on top of...underneath...along side the mountain bikes and snow boards;well "narly dude, now that we caught the big ones lets head up to Mammoth to cut some powder and get there not on the bogus freeway but along side it way off the road.

What a life, what a dream; but when will these 20 somethings, who must be the target market for these extreme vehicles find the time to play...when they need to find a way to pay rent, and for these mobile extensions of the California lifestyle.

We all know that in this sucky economy, twenty somethings who works seven days a week at a burger joint or veggie bar won't have the time to surf or snowboard or skydive or climb or hike or camp or raft or even be able to keep these extreme machines filled with gas, BUMMER Dude

More reflectionsTomorrow; by the way for those of you who are wondering;the teal wrist band did not work and I had to pay for the drinks myself.
