Tiger Woods Named Chairman Of 2002 Buick Scramble

Woods Scheduled to Appear at 2002 Buick Scramble National Finals

Detroit - Buick announced today that Tiger Woods has been named honorary chairman of the 2002 Buick Scramble, the world's largest amateur golf tournament with more than 100,000 participants annually.

Woods, 26, signed an endorsement agreement with Buick in 1999. He appears in Buick advertisements, participates in Buick golf promotions and uses a golf bag featuring the Buick logo. As the honorary chairman of the 2002 Buick Scramble, Woods will be featured in tournament marketing and advertising materials and will participate in the awards ceremony at the National Finals at Walt Disney World on Sunday, October 6.

"We are thrilled to announce to amateur golfers nationwide that the world's number one golfer will be part of the inaugural Buick Scramble," said Larry Peck, Buick's golf marketing manager. " We expect Tiger's involvement to add excitement to an already outstanding national program and we look forward to having him with us at the national finals."

"The Buick Scramble is not only the world's largest amateur golf tournament, it is the best organized, most enjoyable tournament for amateur golfers anywhere," said Woods, who was named Golf Digest's amateur player of the year in 1992.

Known as the Oldsmobile Scramble from 1984 through 2001, The 2002 Buick Scramble kicks-off with approximately 2,000 local championship tournaments starting in February. Open to amateur golfers of all ages and skill levels, participants with certified USGA Handicap Indexes compete as four-person teams in a scramble-type format. The local winners advance, along with their respective host PGA Club Professional, to one of 130 sectional (regional) championships. The sectional winners advance to the national finals at Walt Disney World, October 2-6.

The Buick Scramble offers national finalists first-class treatment throughout the week. With world-class golf and accommodations, passes to Disney's theme parks and two exclusive parties, amateur golfers are treated to a "PGA Tour" caliber experience.

The Buick Scramble, now in its 19th season and first under the Buick banner, is sanctioned by the PGA of America. The tournament is run by Kaleidoscope Event Services in Coldwater, Michigan.

The official car of The PGA of America and the PGA Tour, Buick is title-sponsor of four PGA Tour events, presenting sponsor of the PGA Club Professional Championship and the Tampa Bay Classic PGA Tour event, and is the official sponsor of the domestic events of the World Golf Championships. Buick sponsors golf instructor Butch Harmon and four PGA Tour professionals, including Tiger Woods.
