Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Program Announces Best-Ever April Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., May 23 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported record-breaking April sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles (TCUV). The best-ever April marks the 18th consecutive record sales month for TCUV.

April sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 19,599, an increase of 32.6 percent. Calendar-year-to-date sales totaled 78,896, up 38.4 percent compared to the same period last year. Toyota is the top-selling certified used vehicle in America for a single line manufacturer and Camry is the top-selling certified used car. Since Toyota launched the TCUV program in January 1996, it has sold over 785,000 certified used vehicles.

As of May 1, 2002 the TCUV program's 24-hour Roadside Assistance plan has been enhanced from 12 months to six years/100,000 miles, the full term of the TCUV warranty. TCUV Roadside Assistance covers flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing (for any reason) 24-hours a day. The plan also includes Travel Protection, which covers overnight lodging expenses and substitute transportation.

"Toyota continuously strives to remain the best and most customer-friendly certified used vehicle program in the industry," said Ron Broughman, TMS corporate manager of used vehicle operations. "Extending our Roadside Assistance Plan to the full term of our TCUV warranty enhances what is already one of the best certified used vehicle warranties in the business and, more importantly, provides the customer additional peace of mind."

The warranty, from date of first use when the vehicle was new, is honored at more than 1,400 Toyota dealers throughout the United States and Canada and is transferable without charge. An additional comprehensive six-year, 100,000-mile vehicle service agreement is available.

All 1997-2002 models with less than 65,000 miles are eligible for the program. Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point inspection of all mechanical and safety functions. All vehicles also undergo an exhaustive 32-point detailing and appearance certification checklist.
