AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Drop During Vacation Season

HOUSTON--June 7, 2002--Pump prices declined again as motorists prepare for vacation season, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The cost of fuel dropped in all major Texas cities last week, with the statewide average for regular self-serve gas at $1.34 a gallon. Dallas motorists appear to be paying the most at $1.37 a gallon, with San Antonio drivers paying the least at $1.27 a gallon -- down about a penny since a week ago. Pump prices declined nearly two cents in Corpus Christi - at $1.28 a gallon.
"These lower gas prices are welcome news to travelers," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson. "According to a AAA summer travel forecast, 20 percent of them plan on taking advantage of these lower prices by taking more than one road trip this summer."
