AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Inch Downward
HOUSTON--June 14, 2002--Gasoline prices inched downward again last week, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.The cost of fuel declined in all major Texas cities last week, with the statewide average for regular self-serve gas at $1.33 a gallon, down a penny. San Antonio still has the least expensive fuel at $1.260 a gallon. The Corpus Christi area is not far behind at $1.272 a gallon. Houston is $1.337 a gallon. The highest fuel can be found in the Dallas area at $1.358 a gallon.
"These lower gasoline prices may increase the number of people traveling by car to vacation destinations this summer," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson. "Motorists are paying an average of twenty cents less for a gallon of gasoline today, compared to last year's record-high prices."
