New Product Allows DIY Speech Controlled Car Diagnostics

    BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--July 1, 2002--Sapphire Software Inc.(TM) a Twin Cities-based automotive diagnostic tools firm released Diagnostic Dialog(TM) Basic Edition, the first product to allow car owners to perform speech controlled vehicle diagnostics on their late model cars (1996 or later) using a laptop and special connector cable.
    Diagnostic Dialog (code named DiDi(TM) pronounced DeeDee) is a revolutionary leap forward for do-it-yourself mechanics. The system is completely controllable by voice and speaks diagnostic results back in easy-to-understand phrases. DiDi(TM) can be asked questions such as "What is the current intake air temperature?" and the computer speaks the answer.

    Diagnostic Dialog Basic Edition was created to let the person who works on cars obtain the access needed to work on today's increasingly sophisticated systems. The product consists of a Microsoft Windows-based application, a specially designed universal connector and serial cable. The consumer connects their laptop to their vehicle's OBD-II connector, generally under the steering column, and then interacts directly with their vehicle's electronic systems.
