California Coast 2002 - California Fuel Cell Partnership Road Rally

    WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.--July 9, 2002--The California Fuel Cell Partnership will take its public outreach and awareness tour to California's Central Coast in September with its own fuel cell electric vehicle road rally. Details:



WHAT:  300 miles, 7 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles; The "California
       Coast 2002 - California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) Road 
       Rally" will demonstrate the capabilities and technology of Fuel
       Cell Mobility on a 3-day, 300-mile road rally from Monterey, 
       along the Pacific Coast Highway through scenic Big Sur, 
       continuing into San Luis Obispo and then to Santa Barbara.

WHO:   The CaFCP, whose partners include DaimlerChrysler, Ford,
       General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen,
       ChevronTexaco, Ballard Power Systems, UTC Fuel Cells, BP, 
       ExxonMobil, and Shell Hydrogen, and 5 government agencies.

WHERE: The California Coast 2002 - CaFCP Road Rally begins in
       Monterey, September 4, continues to San Luis Obispo, 
       September 5 and concludes in Santa Barbara, September 6, 2002.

WHY:   Witness the future of mobility and energy independence through 
       vehicle and fuel technology -- of particular importance as we
       approach the one-year anniversary of the world-changing events 
       that occurred on September 11, 2001. This technology is being 
       developed by the auto industry and leading energy providers in 
       an effort to lessen U.S. dependence on imported oil and help 
       reduce auto-related emissions.
