ENRG Obtains Grants Totaling $400,000 for Alternate Fuel Vehicle Expansion

SEAL BEACH, Calif.--July 15, 2002--ENRG, North America's leader in clean transportation, has been awarded on behalf of its customers four grants totaling $400,000 to help expand the use of alternate fuel vehicles.

The grants were awarded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) as part of its Clean Cities Program, whose mission is to help reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil, improve air quality and increase the use of alternative fuels. The grants are made through individual state energy programs. ENRG, a privately held corporation, partnered actively with the California Energy Commission (CEC) to seek the grants from the DOE. This collaboration proved successful in earlier projects funded by the DOE and CEC with ENRG facilitating the deployment of 200 natural gas taxis in the Greater Los Angeles and Coachella Valley areas.

A total of $4.6 million was awarded to 24 states and the District of Columbia. ENRG's awards represent nearly 10% of the total nationwide. The four grants are slated to put a total of 135 natural gas vehicles on the road in California, including 35 taxis in San Diego, 50 police vehicles in the Greater Los Angeles area, and 50 taxis in San Francisco, as well as 43 shuttle buses at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington.

"Our role at ENRG is to heighten the awareness and encourage the usage of alternative vehicle fuels, specifically natural gas, and to serve our customers and markets not only by providing the infrastructure for fueling, but also by facilitating the deployment of alternative fleet vehicles," said Andrew J. Littlefair, president and CEO of ENRG. "We are pleased to provide this support to fleets in these markets seeking clean transportation solutions."

ENRG is the largest provider of vehicular natural gas (CNG and LNG) and related services in North America. It has a broad customer base that includes refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, police, intrastate and interstate trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets with over 25,000 private and public fleet vehicles fueling at more than 90 locations, principally in California and Arizona in the US, and in British Columbia and Ontario in Canada. Customers range from Los Angeles International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, to SuperShuttle, SunLine Transit and Waste Management, to MTDB of San Diego and the US Navy. The company also partners with Ford Motor Company to help expand its market share of natural gas vehicles.
