AAA Texas Survey Shows Statewide Fuel Price Slid Lower; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report

HOUSTON--July 17, 2002--The average price of gas prices moved downward on forecasts of an increase in supplies, according to AAA Texas' Fuel Gauge Report.
Motorists in Texas are paying an average of $1.29 for regular self-serve, down a penny since a month ago, and a penny more than last year's average price of $1.28 a gallon.
The nationwide average price of fuel is $1.40 a gallon, compared to last July's average price of $1.44 a gallon.
"Foreign imports of fuel have been keeping the United States well-supplied and prices stable," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson. "But, economic and political uncertainty in the top producing regions of Latin America and the Middle East could push prices somewhat higher."

Here's how prices fare in other parts of the region:

                  Current Month Ago Year Ago

California $1.64 $1.62 $1.85
Illinois $1.46 $1.46 $1.35
Georgia $1.23 $1.24 $1.27
New York $1.48 $1.50 $1.65
