ZAP Showcases Advanced Transportation at California State Fair

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 19 To raise awareness about the commercial availability of energy-efficient transportation, electric transportation pioneer ZAP (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAPZ - News) is showcasing its full- line of advanced transportation to the anticipated one million people expected to visit the California State Fair through September 2.

ZAP markets many forms of advanced transportation, including electric automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, personal watercraft, hovercraft, neighborhood electric vehicles, commercial vehicles and more. ZAP is perhaps best known for its ZAPPY® folding electric scooter, which helped spark the popularity of stand-on scooters.

For the first time, ZAP will be displaying the GEM Neighborhood Electric Car from Global Electric Motorcars, a DaimlerChrysler Company. ZAP has formed a marketing agreement with GEM to establish rental locations in tourist centers throughout California. The futuristic cars are new category of energy-efficient automobile for short-range urban trips.

Starting in 2003, California will begin mandating the sale "zero-emission" electric cars and is also considering legislation that would make it the first state to combat global warming by requiring reduced tailpipe emissions of greenhouse gases. With passage of the measure, legislators hope to cut gas- forming emissions by improving fuel efficiency standards of cars sold in the state. The new law empowers the state Air Resources Board to achieve "maximum feasible reduction" of greenhouse gases. The air pollution board must come up with its recommendations by 2005. The emissions standard it sets will apply to all cars, light trucks, minivans and sports utility vehicles from the 2009 model year on.

"ZAP will be at the State Fair because we share California's vision of clean air and intelligent transportation," said ZAP spokesperson Alex Campbell. "With over a million people expected to visit the fair, we hope to spread the idea that clean transportation is a reality and not some exotic, expensive concept. All the vehicles we will have on display are for sale-and we expect to be taking orders!"

Established in 1994, ZAP has been a leader in alternative transportation, pioneering the global market for electric bicycles, scooters and more. ZAP is a publicly owned company. To learn more, visit www.zapworld.com or call 1-800-251-4555.
