Twelve Washingtonians to Go Carless for an Entire Month as Part of the Flexcar Challenge
WASHINGTON--Sept. 3, 2002--"Could you live without your car for an entire month?" That's the question 12 Washington, D.C.-area residents are going to answer when they begin the Flexcar Challenge this Friday, September 6. Sponsored by Flexcar, the nation's largest and oldest car-sharing service, the Flexcar Challenge pits men and women against the notion that having a car is a necessity. Participants in the month-long event have agreed to hand over their car keys and travel for 30 days -- to work, the gym, the grocery store -- everywhere -- by means of alternative transportation such as the bus, train, bicycle, carpool and Flexcar. Each participant will keep a journal of his or her experiences which Flexcar will share as the month progresses.
