Valeo and Raytheon to make radar systems for cars

PARIS, Sept 27, 2002 Reuters reported that French car parts maker Valeo (Paris:VLOF.PA - News) and defence electronics and missiles maker Raytheon said on Friday they were teaming up to make radar equipment designed to help car drivers avoid collisions.

A joint venture to be called Valeo Raytheon Systems Inc will draw on military technology to help drivers watch the blind spots on their vehicles as well as introduce anti-collision warning systems, the companies said in a joint statement.

Their first product will be a Blind Spot Detection System based on Raytheon's multi-beam technology, according to the statement released to coincide with the Paris auto show.

The companies gave no financial details on the venture.
