Safe Holiday Driving with 'Guardian Angel' Alcohol Test

PHOENIX, Dec. 27, 2002; CSK Auto, Inc., which serves millions of do-it-yourself auto mechanics in their 1,100 Checker, Schuck's, and Kragen auto parts stores, is launching a major effort to promote do-it-yourself blood alcohol testing this holiday season. The company will sell the new "Guardian Angel" personal alcohol test strips in all its stores, and will also donate large quantities of them to local law enforcement organizations in all its major markets, including such cities as Denver, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

CSK President Martin Fraser says law enforcement officials will be able to distribute the test strips free to citizens in their local communities, as a way of encouraging responsible driving choices. "We're in the car business," he says. "We want to encourage people to be safe in their automobiles, especially during the holidays. The Guardian Angel test is simple and inexpensive."

The Guardian Angel personal alcohol test comes in a credit card-sized pack that fits easily into a wallet or purse. Each card of 4 test strips costs under $2 plus tax. To test blood alcohol level, the user must wait ten minutes after eating, drinking, or smoking, then place a test strip on the tongue for two minutes. The strip changes to a color that is matched to a chart on the package, indicating a high, medium, or moderate level of alcohol in the blood.

CSK Auto, Inc. also donates hundreds of free child safety seats to needy families in several of their markets each year, and provides financial support to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for safe after-school transportation for children.
