Procter & Gamble's Susan Arnold Elected to Goodyear Board

     AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 21, 2003; Susan E. Arnold, the president of Procter & 
Gamble Co.'s global personal beauty care & global
feminine care business, has been elected to the Board of Directors of The
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company .
    "Susan has a distinguished track record in marketing strategy, product
development and leadership," said Goodyear Chairman Sam G. Gibara.  "We are
pleased to welcome her to Goodyear's board."
    Under Arnold's leadership, Procter & Gamble's $8 billion beauty and
feminine care business is undergoing a revitalization and has unveiled several
best-selling products.  She joined the company in 1980, and she has held a
series of marketing and management positions during her career, including vice
president and general manager of the company's largest division, North
American laundry & fabric conditioner products.  When she was named to her
current position in 1999, Arnold became the first woman to reach a president-
level post at P&G.
    "Advertising Age" recognized Arnold as a "Top Marketer" and "One of the 21
to Watch in the 21st Century."  She was a Year 2000 YWCA Career Woman of
Achievement and was listed among "Fortune" magazine's 50 Most Powerful Women
in Business in 2002.
    She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of
Pittsburgh.  She serves on the boards of the Cincinnati Zoo and Reflect.com.
    The election of Arnold brings the size of Goodyear's board to 13 members.
