AAA Texas: Gas Prices Retreat Statewide

HOUSTON--April 11, 2003--Gasoline prices continued their retreat across Texas last week as falling wholesale prices helped push pump prices lower in all reporting areas, according to the Weekend Gas Watch compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded self-serve is $1.520 which is 3.1 cents lower than last week's level, seven cents below the price last month and 16 cents higher than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas in Texas, Dallas had the highest price with an average of 1.547 per gallon, while motorists in Corpus Christi have the lowest price of $1.451.
"Wholesale gasoline prices have been on a downward trend for more than a month now and that has contributed to significant relief at the pump for Texas motorists," said Carol Thorp, spokesperson for AAA Texas said. "The trend should continue for the next couple of weeks, but gas prices could move higher toward the end of April because of the change from winter grade gas to summer grade."
