Celebrity Heroes to Honor Nation's Top Hometown Heroes April

2003 Volvo for Life Awards hosted by Jim Belushi;

Maya Lin, Dr. Sally Ride and Eunice Kennedy Shriver;

What: Celebrity heroes -- Hank Aaron, Bill Bradley, Dr. Jane Goodall,
Maya Lin, Dr. Sally Ride and Eunice Kennedy Shriver -- will
present the nation's top three hometown heroes with Volvo for
Life Awards. The 2003 Volvo for Life Awards Ceremony is the
largest-ever national search and celebration of everyday heroes
with more than $1 million in contributions in its inaugural
year. The three heroes are being chosen from a group of 10
finalists, who were selected from more than 2,000 nominations
and appear on www.volvoforlifeawards.com. The three heroes are:
* Pamela Stack, 48, Miami, Fla., a domestic abuse survivor who
is Miami's leading advocate against family violence.
* Bao Xiong, 37, Wausau, Wis., a mother of six who volunteers
her time to provide job placement and skills assistance to
Hmong refugee women in Wausau.
* Robert Young, 41, Bellevue, Wash., who has dedicated his life
to helping impoverished Native Americans build adequate
housing out of straw bales.

When: Wed., April 16, 2003, 7 p.m. - 11 p.m., concurrent with the New

Why: Launched in December 2002, the Volvo for Life Awards called for
people nationwide to nominate an unsung hero at
www.volvoforlifeawards.com.
More than 2,000 nominations were received. Eight distinguished
judges -- Aaron, Bradley, Goodall, Lin, Ride and Shriver, Paul
Newman and Caroline Kennedy -- selected the top three heroes.
Each winner receives various cash and charitable awards. One
overall winner will be announced and will receive a new Volvo
car every three years for the rest of his or her life.
