A New 'I Do': 'I Subaru-Do.'

North Carolina Couple Makes a Pledge to Love, Honor and Drive Subarus; Chance Meeting at a Car Owners Event Spelled True Love and Wedding Bells

FONTANA VILLAGE, N.C., May 12 -- Exactly one year after meeting one another at a Subaru owners' club "group drive" along the scenic and twisting "Dragon" roadway, Kristi M. Powell and Jerry Hagan, a business manager for Prestige Subaru in Asheville, N.C., will be saying their "I Subaru-Do's" on Saturday, May 17, 2003. The wedding will take place in front of more than 150 friends, family and fellow Subaru car owners at the place where they met, Fontana Village in Fontana, North Carolina.

"Before meeting Kristi, the only girl in my life was 'Sue,' my 2002 Subaru WRX," said soon-to-be groom Jerry Hagan. He continued, "After I asked Kristi to marry me and she accepted, we both decided it would be only fitting to have the wedding at the place where we met and to have both our Subaru vehicles included in the ceremony since the cars were the reason that we met in the first place. And, that is how the 'Subaru Wedding' was born."

As Kristi and Jerry say their vows, both of their cars will be on the grass directly behind them. They will then walk down the aisle to the cheers and applause of friends and family as well as the celebratory car horn beeps of hundreds of Subaru car owners -- fellow members of the Subaru owners club. As the couple is whisked away in "Sue" to celebrate at the reception, they can reflect on how fate drew them together ... a boy, a girl, two cars and a mountain drive called "The Dragon."
