AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gasoline Prices Fluctuate across Texas Region

HOUSTON--July 25, 2003--Gasoline prices throughout the Lone Star State fluctuated slightly this week, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas.

The statewide average price for a gallon of regular self-serve is $1.45 - the same as last week. A year ago, Texans were paying $1.33 a gallon. The city that saw the highest increase last week has the least expensive gas this week. Corpus Christi motorists are paying an average of $1.40 for a gallon of gas -- a decrease of nearly four cents since last week. Dallas remains at the top of the list with the most expensive fuel, at $1.47 a gallon.

"Higher prices earlier this year and a sluggish economy helped push demand for gasoline down," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "With demand lower, prices might go even lower."

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
