New Vehicle Pricing Tool at Edmunds.com Achieves Three-Year Milestone

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 30 -- Edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com/), the premier online resource for automotive information, today celebrates the third anniversary of its True Market Value(R) (TMV(R)) pricing tool for new vehicles.

The Edmunds.com new vehicle TMV tool, freely accessed at http://www.edmunds.com/products/tmv/, allows Web site visitors to learn the current transaction prices for the vehicles they are interested in buying. Edmunds.com asks each consumer to choose make, model, trim level and ZIP code before presenting the current vehicle price based on the options a vehicle typically comes with, and invites consumers to further identify specific options and colors in order to produce the most relevant results possible. Unlimited free access to TMV allows each consumer to create a customized range of real-world transaction prices for vehicles of interest. Then, interested consumers can choose to take the next step in the buying process: pursuing competitive price quotes from dealerships using Edmunds.com's popular, free service.

Since its introduction, the TMV tool has averaged over one million usages each month by new car shoppers and other researchers, including journalists, analysts, academics and members of the automotive industry who need accurate pricing data for their work. And hundreds of research-oriented Web sites have made the tool available to their visitors by signing up at http://www.edmunds.com/products/tmv/add.html .

"True Market Value pricing was established by Edmunds.com in response to an information void in the marketplace: Kelley Blue Book provided asking prices and NADAGuides gave historic transaction prices, but no one was advising consumers what was actually currently being paid," recalls Jeremy Anwyl, President of Edmunds.com. "So, we hired a team of PhDs and statisticians to come up with an accurate pricing system that takes into account all relevant data, such as actual transaction prices, supply and demand for each model, and current dealer incentives."
