Lincoln Celebrates 90th Anniversary of the Lincoln Highway

90 Years of Traveling Well on America's First Transcontinental Highway

-- Lincoln is sponsoring the tour that celebrates 90 years of America's first transcontinental road -- The highway that shares the brand's name is well suited to traveling in comfort and elegance -- hallmarks of the Lincoln brand -- Owners of classic and current Lincolns are making the trek from Times Square in New York to Lincoln Park in San Francisco

NEW YORK, Aug. 19 -- There's nothing that quite captures the romance of a bygone era better than seeing vintage cars on the road. From Aug. 17 - Sept. 1, owners of classic and current Lincoln vehicles will be among those traveling from coast-to-coast to commemorate the 90th anniversary of America's first transcontinental road, the Lincoln Highway.

"The Lincoln Highway Cross Country Tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this remarkable piece of American history in its entirety," said Bob Licty chairman of the Lincoln Highway Anniversary Tour. The tour was created as a way to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 3,300- plus mile road.

Lincoln will serve as an official sponsor for the Lincoln Highway Anniversary Cross Country Tour, although the highway was actually named after former United States President Abraham Lincoln.

The beginnings of the Highway date back to 1913. The Lincoln brand was launched in 1917, becoming a part of Ford Motor Company a few years later.

Since its inception, comfort and elegance have been hallmarks of the Lincoln brand. The current Navigator, Town Car, Aviator and LS carry on with this tradition. Accordingly, a Town Car will pace the caravan of vehicles making the cross-country tour, and Lincoln will provide two Navigators as support vehicles.

Classic Lincolns participating in the drive will include cars such as a 1937 Lincoln K-series, a 1961 Continental and a 1964 Continental.

The tour kicked off in Times Square on Sunday, Aug. 17. It travels through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Nevada and ends in San Francisco's Lincoln Park on Sept. 1.
