More Than 400 Volunteers Expected at L.A.'s MacArthur Park for National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 20

         Volunteers to Pull Trash and Debris From Lake MacArthur

   WHAT:        More than 400 volunteers will be at MacArthur Park on
                Saturday, Sept. 20, to pull trash and debris from Lake
                MacArthur, plant shrubs and paint murals on National Public
                Lands Day (NPLD) sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.,
                Inc.  Each September since 1998, Toyota has worked with the
                National Environmental Education & Training Foundation
                (NEETF) to mobilize hundreds of participants in Los Angeles
                and thousands of volunteers nationwide to refurbish and
                restore America's public lands.

                Sept. 20, 2003, will mark the third year that hundreds of
                Angelinos will volunteer to beautify this historic landmark.

   BACKGROUND:  Now in its tenth year, NPLD is the largest annual volunteer
                hands-on restoration activity of its kind, providing more
                than $8 million in real improvements to public lands in all
                50 states across the nation.  Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.,
                Inc., is the event's national sponsor for the fifth
                consecutive year.  NEETF coordinates all volunteer efforts
                for NPLD.  Across the nation, nine federal agencies will
                participate in the events along with 125 state, county, and
                city partners and a host of nonprofit groups, including the
                Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, National Association of Service
                Conservation Corps, Wonderful Outdoor World and Garden Club
                of America.
