Schenck to Supply Two Heavy Duty Diesel Emission Test Systems to the EPA's National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory

TROY, Mich.--Oct. 1, 2003--Schenck Development Test Systems, a leading global supplier of automotive test solutions, has been awarded a contract to supply two integrated heavy duty diesel test systems to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (NVFEL) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. These systems will enable the EPA to enhance its capabilities to test large on-road and off-road engines operating in a variety of conditions and on a variety of fuels (including alternative fuels). A portion of this testing will be related to the new 2007 Diesel engine emissions rule making.

According to the September 2003 contract, Schenck Pegasus Corp., together with its sister company Interautomation Inc., will be responsible for design, configuration, assembly, integration, installation, calibration, commissioning and acceptance testing of two heavy duty diesel emission test systems for use in separate test cells. Each system will include a highly flexible automation and data acquisition system, engine dynamometer, engine throttle controller/positioner, dedicated safety monitoring system and instrumentation.

The systems will be based on Schenck's latest test data acquisition and control system - STARS -- an open test cell automation platform recently developed by SRH Systems, a joint venture company among three companies: Schenck Pegasus, experts in test and development systems for engines and powertrain; Ricardo, an international specialist in the development of engines, transmissions, vehicles and vehicle electronics; and Horiba, experts in engine emission test systems.

For NVFEL, both systems will be integrated into both new and existing test cell equipment and emissions analysis equipment,
