New ZAPCAR Earns High Marks at Michelin Challenge Bibendum

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Oct. 9, 2003 -- Michelin's Challenge Bibendum in September showcased a dizzying array of new technology from major automakers, but it was a new car from ZAP(R) (BULLETIN BOARD: ZAPZ) , a small, public company from Santa Rosa, California, that may have the biggest impact on the industry.

ZAP is importing the first production electric cars in history from China, says ZAP CEO Steve Schneider, who believes this is the first time a production automobile of any kind has been imported from China to the United States. ZAP has licensed for the distribution of the new electric WORLDCAR(TM) throughout the Americas and is rolling them out to dealers this fall at several trade events.

ZAP's new WORLDCAR earned an 'A' grade in five out of eight categories at Michelin's Challenge Bibendum, an annual alternative fuel vehicle test featuring cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells, multi-fuel hybrids, photovoltaic, natural gas, bio-diesel, battery-electric, and other technologies. Schneider is pleased with the results but says the rating system does not account for the commercial viability of the vehicles.

"If they graded each car on efficiency, affordability and availability, ZAP's new WORLDCAR would be the only one that could compete," said Schneider. "Most of the vehicles at the Challenge Bibendum were expensive R&D concepts that may be available someday, but the WORLDCAR is a zero-emission vehicle that is available now at a price under $10,000."

A 20-year industry veteran, Schneider detailed ZAP's distribution network, designed around the independent auto dealer market, comprised of more than 100,000 dealers nationwide. Independent dealers are hungry for new business opportunities, says Schneider, and unlike traditional auto dealer franchises, they do not have to wait for their automotive partners to develop cleaner transportation products.

ZAP Stands for Zero Air Pollution(R). Founded in 1994, ZAP pioneered the market for personal electric vehicles, delivering more than 80,000 electric bicycles and scooters to more than 60 countries. ZAP is a public company with shares trading on the Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board under the trading symbol ZAPZ.
