Flexcar Provides Commute Option for Stranded LA Commuters; Transit strike forces commuters to find alternate ways to and from work

LOS ANGELES--Oct. 1, 20034, 2003--For hundreds of thousands of LA commuters without a ride to and from work, Flexcar provides needed access to transportation, and better yet -- a reserved parking spot.

Flexcar has more than 25 vehicles parked throughout downtown LA, Pasadena, Burbank, Santa Monica and Long Beach available for hourly or daily use by members. Each car comes with its own reserved parking spot. Gas, insurance, 24-7 service and the parking are included in Flexcar's hourly rates, which begin at $10. Daily rates are as low as $50.

Members can reserve these vehicles when they need one, accessing them via a smartcard. An on-board computer tracks hours of use and miles traveled, and then Flexcar sends the member a bill at the end of the month.

Flexcar can enable commuters and businesses that rely on transit to get to and from their offices and meetings by giving them guaranteed access to a car and a parking spot.

During the transit strike, individuals and businesses need a transportation alternative to ensure they can get to the office and important meetings. Listed below are a few advantages of the Flexcar program:

-- If an individual bikes/walks/carpools to work and needs a car during the day, Flexcar gives them the mobility they need for personal or business needs.

-- If an individual commutes from a long distance, he or she could form a carpool and use Flexcar as the vehicle. Flexcar vehicles have reserved parking spots in many office towers.

-- Stranded workers who work late and need a ride home can take advantage of Flexcar's overnight bonus, in which there is no hourly fee from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am (miles still accrue).

-- It is likely that businesses with fleets will experience a greater than normal demand, resulting in employees not being able to get to appointments or relying on taxis for their transport. Flexcar can help by giving employees access to additional vehicles for their mobility needs.
