a City CarShare Hybrid Vehicle, Media Ceremony to Follow

What: BART and City CarShare announce the opening of a brand new pod location at Ashby BART station in Berkeley. Both agencies will host a news conference on Wednesday, October 22nd, to unveil the newest CarShare hybrid vehicle and usher in a new era of transportation solutions in the Bay Area. On July 24, 2003 the BART Board of Directors unanimously approved a continuation of BART's partnership with City CarShare, which allows the non- profit car-sharing organization to operate at Rockridge, Glen Park and, most recently, Ashby stations.

The Ashby BART station pod is the thirteenth City CarShare location in Alameda County, and is part of a network of over 70 car-share vehicles throughout the Bay Area. City CarShare currently serves 2,600 members in five Bay Area cities -- San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto and Mountain View.

Where: Ashby BART Station east parking lot (at Woolsey Street and Adeline Street) -- rain or shine.

When: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.

Who: Mayor Tom Bates, BART Director Lynette Sweet, City CarShare Executive Director Larry Magid, and members of City CarShare.

Why: "Berkeley is a national leader in finding innovative ways to reduce the use of cars. In fact, our residents use public transit at four times the national average," said Mayor Bates. "For that reason, we have supported City CarShare since its birth in Berkeley and are excited about their growing presence in this community."
