Volvo Buys AOL Online Safety Positions - Kick Off "Partnership" with Halloween Safety Tips for Parents and Children

DULLES, Va.--Oct. 2, 20039, 2003--America Online, the world's leading interactive services company, today announced that Volvo Cars of North America has been named as AOL's featured online safety partner. Through that partnership, Volvo will receive prominent promotions and branding across AOL's safety, privacy, and security content areas, including the company's flagship Parental Controls; its Safety, Security & Privacy areas; and AOL Guardian emails. The companies are kicking off the partnership with the launch of a Halloween-themed area on AOL with online safety tips for parents and children.

Tatiana Gau, Chief Trust Officer and Senior Vice President for Integrity Assurance, America Online, said: "AOL and Volvo are a natural match on safety. Through its award-winning Parental Controls, robust anti-spam technologies, customized firewall, and automatic anti-virus screening for e-mail, AOL has been a leader in online safety efforts, while Volvo has set the gold standard for automotive safety in the offline world. Together, we hope to help educate millions of AOL members about how they can keep their families safe both behind the wheel and behind the keyboard."

Phil Bienert, Manager of CRM and e-Business, Volvo Cars of North America, said: "Whether you are on the physical road or the Information Superhighway, AOL and Volvo are trusted symbols for safety, and we're very pleased to be launching this new partnership. Working together, we plan to use both online and offline efforts to educate families about how they keep their families safe, and Halloween is the perfect occasion for us to kick off the first of those educational efforts."

As part of the partnership, the two companies launched a new Halloween safety tips area, available on AOL at Keyword: Halloween Safety Tips. The safety tips area will feature key safety tips and techniques for parents and children online and will link to resources that help reinforce these important safety habits. The area will be promoted on the AOL service, as well as through offline media outreach to print, radio, and television outlets.

Among the Halloween tips in the area:

1. Protect yourself against possession by a ghost! Use anti-virus software and keep it updated.

2. Hang garlic in your windows to protect yourself against vampire bites! Install and use a firewall.

3. Keep your children away from the Frankenstein castle! Use AOL Parental Controls.

4. Be prepared and have some silver bullets on hand! Patch your software.

5. Stay inside until the night is over and the ghost and goblins are gone! Don't trust e-mails and web sites if you are suspicious.
