2004 Detroit Auto Show:Johnson Controls' Displays Point Trip Information System

Company Collaborates With Navigation Technologies to Offer Digital Maps Linked To Point-Of-Interest Data

DETROIT, Jan. 6 -- Johnson Controls has developed the Point(TM) Location Based Trip Information system, an easy-to-use, cost- effective product that provides trip data to drivers with reduced complexity. The system is being featured at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

A proven leader in interior electronics, Johnson Controls is displaying the consumer-driven system -- for automakers and the media -- at its product and technology exhibit in room D2-15 of Detroit's Cobo Center.

The Point system utilizes GPS (global positioning system) technology and a digital map linked to point-of-interest data to provide pertinent trip information regarding food, gas and lodging options in the area in which a vehicle is traveling. Also provided to help drivers find their destination, is relevant address and cross-street information. The ease-of-use and the appeal of the system have been confirmed by consumer research conducted by Johnson Controls.

To supply consumers with the most updated road-network and point-of- interest information, Johnson Controls teamed up with Navigation Technologies Corp., a leading provider of digital map information and related services and software.

"In contrast to many tools of this type on the market, our Point system is affordable, intuitive and simple to use," said Jim Geschke, vice president and general manager of electronics integration for the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls. "By simply pushing a button, you can access information about cross- streets, addresses, restaurants and much more."

The Point system is integrated into vehicles but can be installed without major modifications to the electrical system -- making it ideal for a model- year changes or mid-cycle enhancements. The system also has a removable memory card that can be updated on demand to retain very high data accuracy.

According to consumer research conducted by Johnson Controls, the system is ideal for minivans, small sport-utility vehicles and mid-size family vehicles.

Navigation Technologies creates digital maps that power navigation and location-based services around the world. The Chicago-based company was founded in 1985 and is privately held. The Company's approximately 1,400 employees are in over 100 offices in 18 countries. For more information, visit www.navtech.com .
