"We are proud and excited to have been selected as a differential supplier to BMW," said Bill Carroll, Dana's acting president and chief operating officer. "Dana is committed to continuous improvement and process advancements that enable us to meet BMW's stringent requirements for this performance vehicle."

Dana utilized a high-speed, environmentally-friendly machining process to cut the gears to the precise dimensions required to meet the final system specifications.

The front differential components are assembled at Dana's new manufacturing facility in Orangeburg, S.C., using leading-edge manufacturing systems to ensure the finished differential meets BMW expectations for fit and performance.

Dana's quality assurance technology in Orangeburg employs 100-percent on- line coordinate measuring devices, which, in real-time, integrate the final machined dimensions of the gears and housing, calculating their optimum relative positions for final assembly. The process verifies that the incoming components are within specification, and then determines the best final assembly positions from the actual dimensions of these incoming components.
