Carroll Shelby Honored With J. D. Power and Associates Chairman's Award

LOS ANGELES, April 12 -- Legendary racer and automotive icon Carroll Shelby, still a dominant force in the automotive industry at age 81, was honored with the prestigious J. D. Power and Associates "Chairman's Award" at the Global Automotive Week Awards Reception Wednesday evening, April 7, 2004 in New York. This award, which has only been bestowed on 12 other occasions in the last 36 years, is presented to organizations and individuals in recognition of performance and innovation in quality, customer satisfaction, employee relations and exemplary service to the automotive industry.

As the thirteenth Chairman's Award recipient, Shelby, Chairman and CEO of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CSBI) , was recognized not only as the father of the Shelby Cobra, but also for more than 54 years of distinguished service to the automotive industry as a successful driver, car owner and manufacturer. In addition, the award also recognized Shelby's many charitable endeavors, most notably for his establishment of the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation, which funds heart and kidney transplants for indigent children around the world.

"From the Bonneville Salt Flats to the LeMans 24 Hours, Carroll Shelby has made his mark in all forms of motorsport," said J. D. Power III, Chairman of J.D. Power and Associates. Attended by more than 200 senior automotive executives and media, the special event was hosted at the Copacabana in New York City in conjunction with the Greater New York Auto Show press days.
