LA Auto Club: Average Monthly Gas Price Falls 12 Cents from June
LOS ANGELES--July 13, 2004--The average monthly price of regular gasoline in Southern California dropped 12 cents from June, but still set an all-time high for the month of July, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's monthly Fuel Gauge Report. The Southern California average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline is $2.247, down from $2.366 on June 15. The highest previous July Fuel Gauge Report price was in 2001 at $1.84.
"Most California refineries are running at maximum capacity to meet demand, and, so far, have experienced only minor production problems," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "As long as production remains problem-free, some of the volatility in the wholesale market is reduced. The true test will come in August, when summer driving hits its peak, and demand usually increases. After declining for a number of weeks, prices have remained flat in recent days and could be poised for an upward turn."
The lowest average price in Southern California is Anaheim, where drivers can pump regular self-serve unleaded gasoline for an average $2.160. The highest price in the region is in Lompoc, where regular goes for an average $2.412. Nationally, the Fuel Gauge Report indicates that the national average is $1.904, down from $1.980 in June.
