One Down -- 3,599,999 Units to Go; New Zealander Becomes First Customer Under Nissan's One Million Additional Sales Plan

GARDENA, Calif.--Oct. 4, 2004--Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has begun the countdown toward its goal of selling 3.6 million units within the next twelve months, or one million units more compared with fiscal year 2001. This goal represents the final commitment under the NISSAN 180 three-year business plan.

Rachel Lobb from Auckland, New Zealand, became the first customer to buy a vehicle under the plan last Friday, when she purchased a new Maxima Si (also known as Teana in Japan) at Newmarket Nissan in Central Auckland, Nissan's biggest dealer in New Zealand.

Lobb, a book supply chain manager with booksellers Whitcoulls, said she would be using her new Maxima as her company car. She said she chose the Maxima for its 3.5-liter V6 engine and performance, which she described as "awesome."

Matthew Downing, Dealer Principal at Newmarket Nissan, said his dealership was delighted to have "fired the first shot" in Nissan's global quest for the additional 1 million units, which will be counted between Oct. 1, 2004, and Sept. 30, 2005. Nissan's regional breakdown for the one million additional units is as follows: Japan -- 220,000 units; U.S. -- 360,000 units; Europe -- 70,000 units; and General Overseas Markets(a) -- 350,000 units.

To meet its one million additional sales goal, Nissan is launching a string of new models in many key markets around the world. On Sept. 2, Nissan unveiled six new models for Japan for the fiscal year, including the Tiida compact hatchback, which went on sale Sept. 30.

In the U.S., Nissan will be releasing four new models, including the all-new Nissan Frontier pickup truck, the Pathfinder sport-utility vehicle and the Infiniti M luxury performance sedan. In Europe, the company will be releasing six new models in 2005, including the Pathfinder, the Murano and the Z roadster.

The 360,000-unit increase for the U.S. is in addition to Nissan North America's goal to sell one million total vehicles during the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2005.

In North America, NNA's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution, and manufacturing.
