Gas Price Average Reaches $2 Per Gallon in Mid-October, AAA Chicago Says

AURORA, Ill., Oct. 15, 2004 -- According to AAA Chicago's most recent fuel gauge report, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois now averages $2.02 per gallon, which is up 16 cents from this time last month and up 40 cents from last year's prices. In northern Indiana, gas prices now average $1.96, which is up 13 cents from last month and up 48 cents from last year's prices.

In Cook County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $2.12 per gallon, which is up 16 cents from last month's prices and up 36 cents from last year.

In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $2.02 per gallon, 15 cents higher than September prices and 39 cents higher than last year.

In Kane County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.03 per gallon, 17 cents higher than September prices and 41 cents higher than last year's prices.

In Lake County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.02 per gallon, 15 cents higher than September prices and 39 cents higher than last year.

In McHenry County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.03 per gallon, 17 cents higher than September prices and 40 cents higher than last year.

In Will County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.99 per gallon, 12 cents higher than September prices and 34 cents higher than last year.

"The escalating gas prices reflect the high price of crude oil, which reached $54 per barrel this week," said AAA Chicago spokesperson Nicole Niemi. "Both gasoline and crude oil are higher partly due to the effects of Hurricane Ivan which hit the Gulf Coast last month."
