Does this sound like Speed to You? PEE Channel Takes a Look 'Behind the Headlights' of Kennedy Limousine

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Oct. 26, 2004--As part of SPEED Channel's Wednesday night Autorotica programming block, Behind the Headlights continues to tell the stories surrounding some of the most interesting cars in history -- James Dean's Porsche Spyder, the Ferrari Barchetta, the Thomas Flyer and many others.

On Nov. 10, 2004 at 8 p.m. ET (9 p.m. PT), the one-hour documentary series, hosted by Bob Varsha, will take a special look "behind the headlights" of arguably the most recognizable car in modern American history -- the 1961 Lincoln Continental limousine that chauffeured President John F. Kennedy through the streets of Dallas on that fateful November day in 1963.

Dubbed X-100 by the Secret Service, the open-air car was built by armored coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt. After Kennedy's assassination, Hess & Eisenhardt completely rebodied the car at a cost of more than $500,000, adding more than 1,600 pounds of bulletproofing, a non-removable top and a more powerful motor. X-100, repainted black instead of its original midnight blue, remained in presidential service through the administrations of Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. The car now is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan.

In 2004, SPEED Channel is the exclusive U.S. cable home for many of the top motor sports series in the world. In addition, SPEED's weekly programming schedule brings car enthusiast television to Prime Time Monday through Thursday. Now available in more than 68 million homes in North America, SPEED Channel is among the fastest growing sports cable networks in the country and the home to NASCAR TV.
