Sparkman High School Blasting Safety Awareness into Drivers Ed

MADISON COUNTY, Ala., Oct. 26, 2004 -- Sparkman High School, one of Alabama's largest high schools, is first in the state to present a dramatic new driving safety awareness program for its Driver's Ed students.

The Extreme Safety Demonstration is an Airbag Blasters program where real airbags are deployed in a real-sized auto model. The demo proves to students that airbags are not meant to be used alone; rather, they are designed be used with seatbelts and used properly. Seatbelts are the first line of defense in a traffic accident - airbags are a supplement to seatbelts. Students are shown the damaging results of trying to "cheat" a vehicle Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in any way.

The program caught the eye and gained the sponsorship of one of the nation's largest insurance firms.

Steve Holland, Principal, Sparkman High School says, "Students are shocked by the noise and astounded by the power that's unleashed in even a minor fender-bender if an airbag deploys. In hundredths of a second, driving in a way that will deploy an airbag becomes top of the list of things they do not want to do."

Airbag Blasters is making this program available to any Driver's Ed program in the nation. The Extreme Safety Demonstration lease package includes a demo vehicle and a supply of airbags.
